Broncho Muco Cleaner
What is COPD balloon therapy?
COPD Balloon Therapy (Broncho Muco Cleaner) is a non-surgical bronchoscopic treatment applied to patients with airway narrowing and thickening of goblet cells due to chronic bronchitis caused by tobacco exposure. The catheter, guided via bronchoscope through an intubation tube, reaches primarily the 8 to 3 mm bronchi and converts the goblet cell layer into foam for aspiration and clearance.
Everything you need to know about Broncho Muco Cleaner — the patented braided balloon technology that reopens tobacco-narrowed airways without surgery.
Broncho Muco Cleaner — Product Features
Broncho Muco Cleaner consists of a dual-lumen catheter with a latex-free braided balloon at its distal end. It can be inflated and deflated with adjustable pressure and frequency using an electronic pump, allowing expansion of the closed lumen and effective, lasting dilation by shaving excess narrowing tissue.
- Compatible with 2 mm working channel bronchoscope
- Sterile & single-use
- Latex-free braided balloon
- Dual lumen (balloon inflation + contrast)
- World’s first and unique braided balloon technology

How is the procedure performed?
Preparation & sedation
The patient is placed under general or local anaesthesia. The procedure takes place in a bronchoscopy unit.
Bronchoscope entry
The bronchoscope is inserted through the mouth via an intubation tube and advanced toward all accessible bronchi.
Balloon application
The Broncho Muco Cleaner catheter, selected for the bronchial diameter, is positioned in the narrowed area. The electronic pump inflates and deflates it with adjustable pressure, converting the goblet cell layer into foam.
Aspiration & clearance
The foamy goblet cell layer is aspirated and cleared through the bronchoscope channel. All accessible bronchi in both lungs are treated.
Completion & observation
The procedure, averaging 30-45 minutes, is completed. After a short observation period, the patient can return to daily life.
Who is it suitable for?
Treatment can be evaluated for the following conditions; definitive eligibility is always determined by an experienced pulmonologist:
- Chronic bronchitis due to smoking and tobacco exposure
- COPD-related airway narrowing and thickened goblet cell layer
- Shortness of breath, fatigue, chronic cough and excessive sputum
- COPD patients with insufficient response to medication
Who is it not suitable for?
- COPD patients with homogeneous emphysema type
- Individuals with severe heart failure
- Patients with active lung infection
- Those with bronchial structural disorders

What to expect after treatment?
When applied to the right patient with the right technique, significant reductions in COPD symptoms can be seen. Most patients report the following improvements within the first few weeks:
- Marked reduction in shortness of breath
- Increased tolerance in daily activities
- Regression of chronic cough and sputum complaints
- Improvement in overall energy and quality of life
Results vary from person to person. The entire process is monitored under specialist physician supervision.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is COPD balloon therapy?
COPD balloon therapy is a non-surgical (non-invasive) procedure performed via bronchoscopy. A thin catheter with a special braided balloon widens the narrowed bronchi and clears the thickened mucus layer to reopen the airways.
How is the treatment performed?
The procedure is performed endoscopically through the mouth. The braided balloon is inflated and deflated with adjustable pressure in narrowed areas to reopen the inner lining of the bronchus. It is a non-invasive method and takes about 30-45 minutes.
Is the procedure painful?
No. Performed with patented braided balloon technology, this method is positioned as the world’s first and only painless COPD balloon therapy and is carried out with a non-invasive (surgery-free) method.
Who is it suitable for?
It is evaluated for patients with chronic bronchitis due to smoking and tobacco exposure and airway narrowing related to COPD. Eligibility is always determined by a physician’s examination and assessment.
How long does it take and what is recovery like?
The endoscopic procedure takes about 30-45 minutes. Thanks to the non-invasive method, patients can generally return to daily life quickly; the process is monitored by the physician.
